Saint Louis Marie was born on 31 January, 1673 in Montfort District, Sur Meu, France. He was ordained a priest on 5 June, 1700 and died on 28 April , 1716. He is known as Father Montfort. In all the 16 years of his priesthood he guided many people in the way of heaven. He used to educate and help the sick and poor establishing 2 groups who still continue his work with the youth and underprivileged. They are the Company of Mary and the Daughters of Wisdom. In 1714 Fr. Montfort opened a school giving the responsibility of care to the 3rd group founded by him, who later were called the Brothers of Saint Gabriel. The Brothers organised the education of the school according to Fr.
Montfort motto's: God Alone.
First period - French Mission
- 1877 - Fr. Columbus, a priest from the Missions Estrangers de Paris opened a French-Siam school for orphans. There were 12 students on role.
- 1885 - Fr. Columbus officially opened Assumption College, initially with 33 pupils; by the end of the year this number had increased to 75.
- 1900 - The Assumption College Roll reached 400.
- 1901 - The first group of 5 Brothers arrived in Thailand. There were 4 from France, Bro. Abel, Bro.Gabriel Ferreti , Bro Hilar and Bro. Martin Detrus and one from Canada, Bro. Agustin.
- 1902 - Another 4 Brothers joined the work at Assumption College.
- 1913 - The number of Brothers reached 29. Unfortunately many died due to difficulty in adapting to the climate, food and drinking water .At the time there were 1000 students which increased to 2000 pupils by the year 1920. The school emphasised the learning of French and English languages.
Second period - Spaniard Mission
- 1920-1937 - Mission period of Spanish Brothers involving 25 Brothers.
- 1920 - Establishment of the St.Gabriel 's College in Samsen and St. Paul's School in Paedliew. In 1941 the St. Paul School was closed due to strong nationalism
- 1932 - Bro. Simion established Montfort College in Chiang Mai. During its first 10 years the school had fewer than 200 pupils per year.
- 1933 - Bro. Martin Detrus and Fr. Columbus passed away peacefully.
- 1939 - Construction of Assumption Commerce College to develop business curricula.
Third period - Asian war
- 1939-1945 - Due to the war in Asia, 13 French Brothers had to leave Thailand for India.
- 1944 - Bro. Frederik opened Assumption College in Sriracha with 83 pupils.
Fourth period - Post war
- 1948 - Thailand became a Province of the Brothers of St.Gabriel, with Bro. Hubert from France as its first Provincial Director. There were 30 Brothers at the time( 15 from France, 9 from Spain and 6 from Thailand). The St. Louis College in Chachoengsao, was opened.
- 1958-1967 - Construction of 5 new schools: Assumption College, Lampang(1958); Assumption College, Thonburi(1961); Assumption College, Rayong(1963); Assumption College, Ubonratchathani(1965) and Assumption College, Nakhonrachasima(1967).
- 1969 - Bro. Bernard Marie from India started constructing a business school , known today as the Assumption Business Administration College (ABAC).
- 1979 - Establishment of Assumption College in Lampang
- 1990 - ABAC College is raised to university status.
